Secret Britain and Secret Yorkshire (“we”, “us”) are UK-based travel and discovery publications, operated by Bart Jankowski and David Wood, 3 St John Square, Wakefield, WF1 2QX. You can contact us at hello@secretgb.co.uk. This page explains how we earn money from links and discount codes, and how we keep it honest.
What we mean by affiliate marketing
Some of the links and discount codes on our website, articles, social media pages and emails are affiliate links or codes. If you click one and buy something, or use one of our codes, the business may pay us a commission. It does not add anything to the price you pay. Some of the places and products we feature do not pay us anything.
How we tell you
- Any post, video, article or email that contains an affiliate link or code starts with a clear label, for example: “Ad. This contains links and codes that earn us commission.” We put it at the very start, so you see it before you click.
- If only part of a piece is affiliate content, we label that part.
- This page is for reference. We do not rely on it as the only notice, and we do not hide the label at the bottom of a page or behind a “see more” link.
- If a business gives us a free product, stay, ticket or trip, we say so at the start.
- If a business pays us to feature them, it is labelled as advertising and is not presented as independent.
Our promise on editorial independence
- Commission does not decide what we write about or recommend. We choose places because they are worth your time.
- We check the facts before we publish, including names, dates, opening details and prices. If we cannot confirm something, we leave it out.
- Our opinions and reviews are our own. We do not publish fake or paid-for reviews.
- Prices and offers are correct when we check them, but they can change. The seller sets the final price, delivery and returns terms, so please check them at checkout.
Buying through our links
When you buy through one of our links, you are buying from the business, not from us. Your contract is with them. We do not sell the product, take payment or see your card details. If something goes wrong with an order, contact the seller first.
Our responsibility for affiliates and their products
Secret Britain and Secret Yorkshire do not make, sell, supply or deliver the products and services we link to. The businesses we feature are responsible for their own products, services, prices, availability, delivery, refunds, customer service and websites, and for what they do with your data. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for anything done or not done by those businesses, or for any loss, damage, injury or dispute that comes from their products or services.
Nothing on this page limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. It does not affect your legal rights as a consumer against the seller.
Cookies and your data
Affiliate links can use cookies or similar tracking to record that you came from us. Our Privacy Policy explains the cookies this website uses and the choices you have. The businesses we link to have their own privacy policies.
If we collect email addresses, we only share yours with a business if you tick a separate box, not ticked in advance, that names that business.
The rules we follow
We follow the UK advertising rules (the CAP Code, enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority) and UK consumer protection law, including the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
Questions or concerns
If you think something on our website or pages is unclear or misleading, please tell us at hello@secretgb.co.uk and we will put it right. You can also contact the Advertising Standards Authority at asa.org.uk.
